3 superfood snacks with raw cacao
Today’s recipe is based on raw cacao, giving you three different choices for it’s use. We have made raw goji berry chocolate, granola bars with raw chocolate and banana ice cream pops! We have written before about the cool effects of raw cacao, and why you should try to eat more of this super snack. You can read more about this here. Superfoods are natural foods with a very high concentration of important nutrients. For example herbs, vegetables, fruits, algaes and grasses that are packed with vitamins and minerals. These different types of foods are sold in powder form, so it’s easier to add into different types of meals. You can get an overview of what superfoods that are available here (ad/annonse).
First, we present the basic recipe that is used in all three snack options.
Basic recipe – melted chocolate
- Raw cacao (double the amount as cacao butter)
- Raw cacao butter
- Sweetener – honey, agave, yacon, stevia (optional)
Melt together the cacao butter and the raw cacao in a water bath. The cacao butter can be replaced with coconut oil if that’s what you have. Add the sweetener if you’re not into the flavor of really dark chocolate.
Raw goji berry chocolate

- Goji berries (or other superfood snacks)
This is the easiest recipe of the three. When the basic recipe is done, add your goji berries and pour it into molds (or place on baking paper). We used muffin trays of silicon, so the chocolate comes out easily when it’s done. Let it set in the fridge and enjoy your very own homemade snacks!
Granola bars with raw chocolate
- Basic recipe
- 1,5 cup oats
- 1 cup pitted dates
- 1 cup almonds
- 1-2 tbs honey
- 3 tbs almond butter
Heat the oven to 160 degrees celcius. Roast the almonds and oats in the oven for about 15-20 minutes. Place the pitted dates in a food processor and run until the texture is sticky and smooth. It suddenly forms a “ball”, but that’s fine. Warm the honey and almond butter in a pot. When the oats and almonds are ready, chop the almonds and place them in a bowl together with the rest of the ingredients.
Once the ingredients all stick together, put them in a baking tray where you shape the dough with your hands, so it becomes the size you prefer, and are all flat on top. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it set in the freezer for 20 minutes. Then you can cut the dough into preferable sized bites, and dip it in chocolate if you like 🙂
Banana ice cream pops

This is the easiest, fastest way to enjoy home made chocolate ice cream that is actually good for you as well! It’s definitely a snack to try out this summer. When you freeze bananas, they transform into a ice creamy texture that tastes sooo good. Cut a banana in two, and place the bites in the freezer. When they are frozen, they are ready to be dipped in chocolate and chopped almonds, before you stick them in the freezer for a little while longer as the chocolate gets to set. Serve it on a super warm summer day or enjoy it in the evening when you are craving a sweet snack.
